Health Access Nurturing Development Services (HANDS) is a voluntary home visitation program for all first time parents residing in Kentucky. Services can begin during pregnancy or anytime before a child is 3 months old.
HANDS is an educational service that promotes healthy pregnancies, births, healthy child growth and development, healthy and safe homes, and self-sufficient families.
The HANDS program is free to all first time moms and/or dads, regardless of their age or income. The staff of HANDS believe that a child’s parents are the most important people in that child’s life. A parent is the first and most important teacher a child will ever have.
HANDS offers information and support to parents as they build a healthy, safe and stimulating environment in which their baby can grow and develop.
For more information about the HANDS program or to sign-up, please contact Anderson County Health Department HANDS staff at (502) 839-4551.
A Note from one of our families...

"I have been a part of the HANDS family since I was about 8 months pregnant with my daughter, Aysia, now 7 months.  I had never heard of the program before & was timid about becoming a part of it, but it has been nothing but a blessing since the first day I walked into the Health Department to inquire about it.  My husband is currently in Afghanistan and it is so nice to have someone come over and reassure me as a mom and a wife and a woman.  We have talked about everything and work through issues I'm having in life.  I have learned so much about being an effective caregiver through all of the material through HANDS.  I learn something new every week.  I love doing the crafts and Aysia loves to play (and chew on) with them.  HANDS has helped me transition into motherhood with routine suggestions, feeding guidelines, safety requirements, stress reduction/management, developmental progress and on and on and on.  I would recommend the HANDS program to any and every new parent."
